Men’s Sheds began in Australia. They offer a place for men to gather, to talk, to learn new skills and make friends.
The Canterbury Men’s Centre are conscious of the challenging times facing New Zealanders. Redundancy and financial pressures effect men’s ability to feel worthwhile. Men’s Sheds provide a place where men can get together cooperatively to be inspired and encouraged by each other.
There are currently no Men’s Sheds in Canterbury. Based on Australian research we anticipate men’s sheds in Canterbury will provide significant educational, health, mental health and social outcomes for men. We think that the time is right for them to really get going here. By facilitating start-ups, helping to deal with crisis and linking the enthusiastic individuals involved we can help to create a great place for men to be and to feel worthwhile.

This is an excellent idea and I am so glad to see one in my father’s area. Oxford.
My father, previous to his strokes, was a shed man. He is now left confused and unable to see a project through. There is great value in him pottering with the old tools he knows best, with no deadline in sight. He has no incentive to do any of this without the company of another bloke. My mother would love nothing more than to have him away from reading the newspaper and out the door. This stimulus is exactly what his mind needs.
Can I get the ph. number for Trevor? The number on your site is for the Area School and they are away on holiday.
Regards

Hi Catherine,
I’ve sent your e-mail to Trevor and hope he gets back to you sooner. The shed isn’t up and running yet but they could use a hand I imagine doing the set up work.
